Students and staff at West Elementary School in Long Beach celebrated the 100th Day of School by honoring their 100th year anniversary milestone. Each grade level dressed to represent a different decade transforming the hallways into a vibrant, living timeline of culture, style, and school pride.
From poodle skirts and leather jackets to tie-dye shirts and neon windbreakers, creativity and school spirit were on full display. Pre-K students brought the 1920s to life, while second graders represented the 1930s and administrators honored the 1940s. Kindergarten celebrated the 1950s, and special area teachers embraced the spirit of the 1960s. First grade traveled back to the 1970s, third grade showcased the bold fashions of the 1980s, fifth grade highlighted the 1990s, and fourth grade rounded out the timeline with the 2000s.
West Principal Amy Dirolf said, Seeing our students bring each decade to life reminded us that while styles change, the heart of West community, kindness, and learning remains constant.” She continued, “Our students didn’t just learn about history; they became part of it, connecting the past, present, and future of West Elementary.”
The celebration not only showcased the evolution of fashion through the decades, but also paid tribute to a century of learning, growth, and cherished tradition at West Elementary School.
