The Long Beach High School Theatre Department invites the Long Beach community to its fall production of The Man Who Came to Dinner, a classic American comedy by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. Performances will be held on November 20, 21, and 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Long Beach High School Auditorium.
Set in the small town of Mesalia, Ohio, just before Christmas in the late 1930s, the play follows the famously outlandish New York City radio wit Sheridan Whiteside, who is invited to dine at the home of factory owner Ernest W. Stanley and his family. Before he can even step inside, Whiteside slips on a patch of ice and injures his hip, forcing him to remain in the Stanleys’ home under the care of Dr. Bradley, Miss Preen, and his loyal secretary, Maggie Cutler.
Confined but undeterred, Whiteside proceeds to turn the household upside down—disrupting routines, sparking romances, and igniting chaos with an endless stream of eccentric visitors and outrageous antics. With its sharp wit, fast-paced dialogue, and colorful characters, The Man Who Came to Dinner delivers an evening of laughter and lively satire on celebrity, manners, and domestic mayhem.
Join us for this entertaining production showcasing the talent and creativity of Long Beach High School’s student performers and crew.
