BOOK SWAP NEWS

ATTENTION ALL PARP PARTNERS:

We will be having a “Book Swap” every Wednesday and Thursday during PARP.

Any child that would like to bring in a book that they no longer read, can swap that book for a different one that they can keep. We would greatly appreciate any gently used books that parents would like to donate. If you have books in your home library collections that are no longer read by anyone in the family we would love to have them for our “swapping” collection.  If you do come across any books you would like to donate, please call Eileen Zeppa at 897-2215.  Remember to start recording your minutes. Let’s all help our children achieve success by participating in PARP.

Thank you all for your support and donations!!!!

A Memorable Day Honoring the Rich History of West

Students and staff at West Elementary School in Long Beach celebrated the 100th Day of School by honoring their 100th year anniversary milestone. Each grade level dressed to represent a different decade transforming the hallways into a vibrant, living timeline of culture, style, and school pride.

From poodle skirts and leather jackets to tie-dye shirts and neon windbreakers, creativity and school spirit were on full display. Pre-K students brought the 1920s to life, while second graders represented the 1930s and administrators honored the 1940s. Kindergarten celebrated the 1950s, and special area teachers embraced the spirit of the 1960s. First grade traveled back to the 1970s, third grade showcased the bold fashions of the 1980s, fifth grade highlighted the 1990s, and fourth grade rounded out the timeline with the 2000s.

West Principal Amy Dirolf said, Seeing our students bring each decade to life reminded us that while styles change, the heart of West community, kindness, and learning remains constant.” She continued, “Our students didn’t just learn about history; they became part of it, connecting the past, present, and future of West Elementary.”

The celebration not only showcased the evolution of fashion through the decades, but also paid tribute to a century of learning, growth, and cherished tradition at West Elementary School.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, students representing West Elementary School in Long Beach proudly presented a $500 donation to the Long Beach Soup Kitchen. The funds were raised through the school’s annual Turkey Trot Fundraiser. The contribution reflected the collective effort and generosity of the school community, led by its youngest learners. West Principal Amy Dirolf said, “Through efforts like this, our students are learning the importance of compassion, service, and showing kindness to others in meaningful ways.”

This effort is part of West Elementary’s 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge, an initiative that encourages students to take responsibility for their words, actions, and choices and is also part of the school’s upcoming milestone centennial celebration.
