Long Beach High School senior Uma Arengo recently won two prominent recognitions in the Charles Duggan Long Island Science and Engineering Fair. She earned a second place Grand Award as well as a special Mu Alpha Theta Award, which recognizes excellence in mathematics. Her project is titled: “Using Box-Counting Dimension to Quantify the Progressive Stages of Diabetic Retinopathy” and was submitted in the “Math AND Physics and Astronomy” category.
According to LISEF, this annual competition is for the most advanced high school projects; the participants in this fair have a chance to present to professionals in their subject areas from local universities, scientific institutions and professionals in the field.
