Long Beach Middle School students celebrated International Pi Day (March 14) early on Friday, March 12, by attempting to break out of a virtual escape room. Participants were tasked with a mission to open five locks by researching facts about Pi and its usefulness in the world. After students “escaped the room,” they unlocked a raffle entry form along with entertaining videos and several appearances Pi has made in various media over the years. This activity was inclusive of all students at the Middle School.

According to www.piday.org, Pi is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Math learners and experts alike often acknowledge Pi on the calendar date that matches its value with challenges and educational games.
