LBHS Launches New Barbering Program

Long Beach High School has launched a new Barbering Program, giving students hands-on experience in barbering techniques while exploring career pathways in the industry. Under the instruction of BOCES Barbering Teacher Dan Wallace, the program combines practical learning with opportunities to develop essential workplace skills, including communication, customer service, sanitation, time management and entrepreneurship. Students who meet program requirements will be eligible to sit for the New York State Barbering Licensing Exam.
To celebrate the program’s launch, Long Beach High School Principal Andy Smith and Long Beach Director of Social Studies, Business and Work-Based Learning Rich Rogers were among several students who took a seat in the school’s barber chairs for inaugural haircuts performed by student barbers. The experience allowed students to put their developing skills into practice while showcasing the authentic, career-connected learning at the heart of the program.
The Barbering Program reflects LBHS’s commitment to expanding career-connected opportunities and helping students build confidence, explore their interests and develop skills that extend beyond the classroom.
