Long Beach students and staff throughout the district observed Patriot Day on Sept. 11 in a variety of meaningful ways to remember, honor and stand together in unity. Students and staff were encouraged to wear red, white and blue in recognition of the day.

The Long Beach High School Pep Band, Life Skills students and cheerleaders gathered on the Boardwalk to cheer on participants in the 343 Run for firefighters, while students at West School also showed their support by cheering for runners as they passed by the school. A patriotic memorial display hangs in the lower commons at Long Beach High School.

The high school and middle school distributed American flag and star stickers for students and staff to wear. At the high school, a memorial reading was held at 8:46 a.m., followed by a moment of silence. Long Beach Middle School also observed moments of silence and featured a special student presentation during the morning announcements.  Long Beach Middle School Social Studies classes incorporated age-appropriate lessons, re-flection activities and resources to help students understand and reflect on the significance of the day.

At the elementary schools, teachers incorporated books and lessons across grade levels that focused on themes of hope, resilience, community helpers and everyday heroes. Through read-aloud and age-appropriate activities, students had opportunities to reflect on the importance of kindness, courage, community and helping others.
