Long Beach Middle School student Madeline Eckert recently earned a perfect score of 20 in the second of three meets in this year’s WordMasters Challenge, a national vocabulary competition that engages nearly 125,000 students annually. An accomplishment that only 41 sixth graders nationwide achieved this distinction. In addition, sixth graders Arwyn Donofrio, Jackson Ferraro, and Rowan McLaughlin were recognized for their outstanding partcipation in the same meet, showcasing the school’s strong showing in the competition. The WordMasters Challenge is a rigorous exercise in critical thinking that encourages students to master a set of advanced vocabulary words often well above grade level and then apply them to complete analogies that express a range of logical relationships. Through this process, students develop both analytical and metaphorical thinking skills. Congratulations to all of the Long Beach Middle School participants, who were coached in preparation for the WordMasters Challenge by Walter Kramme.
