The Long Beach High School Theatre Department presented Shrek The Musical, a lively stage adaptation of the beloved animated film, to family and friends for three performances on March 12, 13 and 14 in the school’s auditorium.
Filled with humor, heart, and unforgettable songs, the production was an entertaining experience for all in attendance.
Based on the DreamWorks Animation motion picture and the book by William Steig, Shrek The Musical features book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori. The story follows an unlikely hero, Shrek, as he embarks on a life-changing journey alongside a talkative donkey, a feisty princess, and a cast of fairytale misfits.
The production set in the forest showcased a talented cast and crew of over 100. The lead roles were performed by Luke Morita as Shrek, Reilly Sanfilippo as Princess Fiona, Ronin Morita as Donkey and Michael Macaluso Vosganian as Lord Farquaad. The show featured a Dance Ensemble, Happy People, Dragon’s Knights and a Pit Orchestra, all working together to bring the story to life.
With such a large and dedicated cast, the production was a true testament to the hard work and creativity of the students, leaving the audience thoroughly entertained and impressed with their outstanding performances.
The production was directed by Alex Austein, with musical direction by Michael Capobianco, conducting by Leigh Yazak, choreography by Christianne Donohue, and production design by Scott Scheinson.
