Delayed Openings/School Closings
EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS
A decision to close school for the day for emergencies related to weather and road conditions will be made before 6:00 a.m. and reported to the following stations: •WPAT - 93.1 FM (Spanish)
•WALK - 97.5 FM
•WSKQ - 97.9 FM (Spanish)
•WBLI - 106.1 FM
•WHLI - 1100 AM
•WINS - 1010 AM
•WCBS - 880 AM
•WOR - 710 AM
•WCBS - Ch. 2 TV
•WNBC - Ch. 4 TV
Transportation to all private and parochial schools, both in and out of district, will be cancelled on such days.
If it appears that road or weather conditions will be hazardous at the normal opening time of the school day, but are expected to improve, a delayed opening will be announced before 6:00 a.m. Delayed openings will postpone the opening of school by two (2) hours; i.e., schools will open two (2) hours after their normal starting times. A delayed school opening means bus schedules will be delayed by two (2) hours. For example, if a child's bus is scheduled to arrive at 8:00 a.m., the delay will change the bus arrival time to 10:00 a.m. When there is a delayed opening:
•All buses to private and parochial schools in the district will be delayed by two (2) hours.
•All out-of-district transportation will be cancelled.
•Morning prekindergarten classes shall be cancelled.
•Listed radio and TV stations will announce the delay.
•The Fire Department will issue one (1) blast followed by six (6) blasts, repeated three (3) times. A delayed opening is subject to change to an emergency school closing if the weather or road conditions remain hazardous.
SNOW EMERGENCY MAKEUP DAYS
If the district uses more than two (2) days for snow emergencies during the 2011-2012 school year, the makeup days will be (1) Friday, May 25, 2012, (2) Friday, April 13, 2012 and (3) Thursday, April 12, 2012.
