Athletics Update Jan. 27 High Risk Sports - Click to Read More

Dear Parents and Students,

Section VIII, the governing body of most high school athletics in Nassau County, notified the district that practices for the high school sports of varsity competitive cheer, varsity and junior varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball, and varsity and junior varsity wrestling may begin on Monday, February 1st. In order to organize tryouts, we are asking that all students interested in trying out for these teams sign up in the google classrooms used for the off-season workouts. If a student has already signed up for the classroom, they do not need to sign up again. The codes are:

Sport Classroom Code
Competitive Cheer n44frn
Boys' Basketball sisejji
Girls' Basketball eovugzg
Wrestling pdrdask

The coaches will be posting further information about the tryouts including time and location of tryouts in the google classroom by the evening of Thursday, January 28th. Students should check in with the classrooms daily. The district will be reviewing the covid safety protocols developed by the Nassau County Health Department prior to the first day of practices. Any student who has joined a winter team already will be able to try out for basketball, competitive cheer, and wrestling. Whether a student will be able to stay on both teams will be discussed with both coaches, the student and myself. For this year, we will make every effort to allow students to finish both seasons. The New York Islanders High School Hockey League has not decided whether a hockey season will happen. Once I receive any information about hockey, I will send out that information. Section VIII has not decided whether middle school high- risk sports will take place. We continue with our commitment to provide our school community the most accurate information on athletics when it becomes available.

Thank you for your patience as we move through this challenging time as a community.

Sincerely,

Arnold Epstein
