Bringing a Valuable Lesson to Life
Second and third-grade students at Miller Avenue Elementary School took part in an interactive puppet show, presented by representatives from the Sunshine Center based in Port Jefferson Station. The show was geared at teaching the children about bullying and ways to handle difficult situations. Miss Carol and Miss Amber, both from the Sunshine Center, began the presentation by talking to students about what a bully is, the different types of bullying, and how to reach out for help if one is being bullied.
Following their discussion with students, volunteers from each class were chosen to assist in a puppet show. Children enthusiastically raised their hand for a chance to participate. During the show, each puppet was “brought to life” by the students, as Miss Carol narrated the performance. The show told the story of six children in a bullying situation and, ultimately, how they resolved their conflicts.
