Students from East School, Long Beach Middle School and Long Beach High School received lessons in sportsmanship, determination and effort on Oct. 27, thanks to a visit from Harlem Wizards basketball player Patric Massey. Known as “The Artist,” Massey shared his skills and talents, then involved students in drills and other activities.
Massey’s first stop was Long Beach Middle School, where he spoke to students during their lunch periods and called on volunteers to participate in basketball stunts. At the High School, he joined gym classes for volleyball games and encouraged all students to get involved. Later in the afternoon, Massey went to East School and addressed kindergarteners through fifth-graders. He engaged several students and staff members in a basketball drill and challenged them to be on the lookout for tricks. Jolynn Baker was the winner of the friendly competition.
The day helped build excitement for the Nov. 17 Harlem Wizards vs. Long Beach Teachers game, hosted by the East School PTA. It will be held in the High School gym at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at www.harlemwizards.com/schedule-tickets. Prices vary, so please see the attached flyer for specific details.
