The Port Jefferson High School Science Olympiad Team competed at the state competition on March 30th and 31st.  51 teams from throughout New York State met at Canisius College in Buffalo, with students competing in events that tested their skills in all areas of science as well as engineering.

Four students earned gold medals at this two day event:  Allison Cluett and Alberto Rescia for the Geologic Mapping, and Isabella Sanders and Weien Xu for Technical Problem Solving.  Other top ten finishers included Isabelle Stark and Weien Xu for Fermi Questions, and Allison Cluett and Katharina Ross for Water Quality.  
While in the Buffalo region, students had the opportunity to visit Niagara Falls, site of the first hydro-electric power plant.

The Middle School Science Olympiad competed in the State Competition against 35 of the top teams in New York State on Friday April 20th and Saturday April 21st at SUNY Ulster Community College. The team placed 14th out of 36 teams that made it to the competition. The team received medals in four events.
